U11 Tag Rugby Festival
Ranelagh entered a mixed U11 team in the Tag Rugby Festival (Westbourne) on Tuesday 7th November at St Joseph's College. A couple of lunchtime training sessions/trials were arranged leading up to the tournament to remind everyone of the rules and to prepare a team.
At the festival 24 teams were entered, Ranelagh were drawn to play 6 matches. The first game against Capel St Mary was a very even contest, but Casey broke through and touched down just as the final whistle blew 1-0 to Ranelagh!
Ranelagh boosted by the exciting finish in the first game flew out of the blocks in their second match. Finding some rhythm , with captain Katie organising the line, they kept their shape well and beat Sproughton 3-1 (Tries from Casey, Edson, Jamiil)
Hadleigh, probably the strongest team at the Festival, beat Ranelagh in the third match, with Jamiil , who received a fair play award from the organisers, scoring two superb tries!
Although disappointed with the third match Ranelagh ran out determined to get back to winning ways in their fourth match. Starting well it was their most complete performance of the day, with some solid defending, running some great tries winning the game 4-1 against Stratford St Mary (Tries from Edson x 3, Jamiil).
The most exciting games were still to come though as the outside temperature dropped Ranelagh turned up the heat!. A fantastic 5-5 draw against Henley(tries from Jamiil x 2 , Edson x 2 , Casey) End to end, with Henley equalizing as the final whistle blew followed by another thrilling 2-2 draw with The Oaks! (Tries from Jamiil x 2).
Team Ranelagh were fantastic! Showing great determination, team spirit and sportsmanship. The pre-match warm up walk to the venue wearing their new team strip, thanks Claydon FC, seemed to bond the group. The walk back after the festival was a bit slower but everyone had smiles on their faces!
