Woodpeckers

Welcome to the Woodpeckers' class!

This is a mixed Year 1/2 class where we combine teacher-led and independent activities.

This summer term our topic is: 'Planet Earth'.

We will be exploring the many aspects of planet Earth through a range of lessons and activities.

Not only do we have an exciting topic themed trip coming up, but we also have a fantastic reading cafe 'Reading is a Hoot'! This cafe will support you and your child with home reading and also give you a chance to experience a wonderful story and a fun craft activity. We hope that you can make it.

In English, we will be learning about Earth and culture with the brilliant text 'Pattan's Pumpkin'. Children will participate in lots of book talk, group activities, drama, shared writing and meaningful writing experiences.

In maths, we will be recapping naming shapes and their properties and measuring the capacity of liquid. We will also be learning about position and movement and participating in mathematical investigations

Through COOL time (choosing our own learning), children will take part in many activities learning about the continents, oceans, where our food comes from, famous individuals from the past and learn new skills such as sewing, planting seeds, preparing food and printmaking.
