 Spring Term 1

This is a mixed Year 1/2 class where we combine teacher-led focused activities with continuous provision to ensure our children are independent learners and problem solvers. We have COOL (choose our own learning) jobs for the children to complete every week alongside focused challenges.

This Spring term we are focusing on the book 'The Lonely Beast'. Our learning across the curriculum will link to the story, which will be revealed slowly. Therefore, we ask that you do not tell your child this half term's text or rush out and buy the book. This is to ensure that learning at Ranelagh continues to be new and exciting and captivates children's interests.

Please look at our Medium Term Plan attached below to see what we will be covering in science, history, RE and art. Any additional learning at home on these objectives is always welcome; just remember to not explore our topic book 'The Lonely Beast'.

Reminders

PE is every Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school on these days. The PE kit is a t-shirt, shorts and plimsolls or trainers.

We are no longer doing weekly spellings in KS1 so therefore there will be no weekly spelling test. However, each week, a piece of homework will be expected to be completed. The activities you and your child can choose from are in their homework books. Choose one a week to complete and we will collect books on a Monday to look at your fantastic home learning.

Please read with your child frequently, at least 3 times per week, and record this in their journals. There will be a raffle ticket given each week to the children that do read that will be put into our prize box. At the end of the half term, the winning raffle ticket will receive a voucher!

Please can you ensure your child has a water bottle in school every day.

Please find below a few fun, educational games for your child to develop maths skills:
