Phonics is the correspondence between spoken sound (phoneme) and the written letter (grapheme). At Ranelagh we use the Letters and Sounds Government recommended scheme as the basis for our teaching. In addition to this we use a range of teaching and learning experience when teaching phonics to ensure a multi-sensory approach Children are taught phonic skills from the moment that they join our nursery or reception classes.
