  • Butterflies!

Fri 20 May 2016 Mrs Blake

After spending the last few weeks observing our caterpillars grow bigger, and change into a chrysalis and then butterflies, it was finally time to set them free so that they could go and start their life cycle again.

The Nursery children went down to the woodland area and set two of our butterflies free, and the Reception children went into the Early Years garden. We were able to hold the butterflies for a short time before they flew away.

  • Year 2 fun - Rabbits, plants and flowers!

Mon 09 May 2016 Mrs Rodger

Year 2 had a visit from some rabbits. We learnt about how to care for animals and had the opportunity to ask the owner some questions.

In Science the parents came in to explore plants and which food comes from plants. We tried different foods and rated them out of ten.

A local florist donated some flowers to Year 2. We used them as a focus for our drawing in art and to dissect in science.

  • Samba comes to Ranelagh.

Tue 03 May 2016 Miss Felgate

On 3rd of May we had a visit from Jim Bernardin who runs the World Music Workshops.  He came to teach us all about Samba, the sounds of South American music and the massive carnival they are played at in Rio, Brazil.

We started the day with a whole school assembly where Jim played us a range of musical styles from around the world which had everyone moving and clapping along in no time!

When it was time for our class session we learnt about beats and rhythms and how important it is to play and work as a team so we could play as a samba band.  We were able to explore and play instruments such as the Caixa (marching snares) the surdo (bass drums) and the agogos (two-pitched bells) to name a few.

We had so much fun singing, dancing and playing some amazing songs and rhythms, what a fantastic day!
