LO: I am learning to identify and use prepositions in my writing. 

 

What is a preposition?

Prepositions are words that tell us where or when something happens.

 

Examples:

  • The book is on the table. (Where? On the table.)

  • She arrived before lunch. (When? Before lunch.)

Common Prepositions:

  • Place: in, on, under, behind, between, next to

  • Time: before, after, during, at, on

  • Direction: to, from, into, out of

Example sentences:

Prepositions of Place

  • The cat is under the chair.

  • The ball is between the two boxes.

  • The clock is on the wall.

 

Prepositions of Time

  • We go to school in the morning.

  • My birthday is on Monday.

  • The train leaves at 3 o’clock.

 

Prepositions of Direction

  • She walked to the park.

  • The bird flew into the tree.

  • He ran from the house.
