At Ranelagh, it is our aim to deliver high quality PE and school sport for every child. This develops a lifelong enjoyment and passion for physical activity and sport. All children receive 2 hours of PE each week, which include opportunities to take part in gymnastics, dance, outdoor games, athletics and swimming in Years 5 and 6.
As a school we offer a range of extra-curricular sports clubs both before and after school including: basketball, HipHop, multi-sports and other sports linked to the inter-competitions/ events we take part in. The children at Ranelagh Primary School have the opportunity to compete against other schools in a number of sports event; football, basketball, cross country running, rounder’s and cricket.
Our school believes that through PE we can develop lifetime skills including; self-confidence, positivity towards physical activity, strength, resilience, cooperation, fair play and perseverance. All important skills for a healthy future!
Primary PE and Sport Premium
The Primary PE and Sport Premium is government funding provided to schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. The government have committed to this funding again in 2020-21. The Department for Education’s vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium is for:
“All pupils leaving primary school (to be) physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.”
At Ranelagh we share this vision and strive to use the funding to create a long lasting sporting legacy that will continue long after the Primary PE and Sport Premium. With this in mind, we aim to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of our PE and sport provision. Further information on how we intend to use this premium is shown in our Action plan below.
