At Ranelagh, we approach science with four key principles;
adults and children are all engaged in the topic and clearly perceive that science is 'fun',
children are motivated and engaged in science through practical 'hands-on' activities,
children are encouraged to become independent and creative learners through relevant activities and
children are encouraged to ask questions.
Science lessons are taught weekly in all year groups across all areas of the national curriculum. By the end of their Ranelagh journey, children will have been encouraged to ask scientific questions, use a range of tools to measure and collect data, plan, prepare, execute and evaluate experiments and explore scientific theories. The children will discover the work of both famous scientists and scientists working today and building on established theories through A Scientist Just Like Me.
Each half term, there will be a Big Science Question competition. The children are invited to create a poster, a PowerPoint or a 3D model to answer the question. There will be prizes for the amount of effort children put into their project.
The current Big Science Question is:
Why is the sea salty?
