Maths
Let's play subtraction tower race!
Each player make a lego tower of 20 blocks. If you don't have lego, you could always draw this tower instead :)
Roll a dice (there are dice online if you don't have one at home).
Take away that number of blocks you have rolled and write this number sentence down.
E.g. if you roll a 5, write 20-5 = 15
When it is your turn again, roll the dice. Subtract that number and write the number sentence down.
e.g. if you roll a 2, write 15-2 = 13.
The first player to reach 0 is the winner!
English
In grammar meetings, we have been learning how to add the -ing and -ed suffix to words.
We have learnt a few rules:
For ed suffix, we know:
If the word ends in an e, drop the e before you add -ed
If the word has a short vowel sound (e.g. hop) and only has one letter after the vowel, double the last letter before adding -ed (hopped)
If a word ends in a y, change the y (e.g. worry) to an i before adding -ed (worried)
For ing suffix, we know:
If the word has a short vowel sound (e.g. hop) and only has one letter after the vowel, double the last letter before adding -ing (hopping)
For today's English, we need to work out if the sentence needs an -ed word or an -ing word. Write the sentence with the correct suffix making sure you write the word with the correct spelling.
Phonics
We have just started learning our phase 5 digraphs (2 letters making one sound)
We have learnt
ea (bead)
ou (cloud)
ay (day)
oy (toy)
Today explore the ie digraph (two letters that make the ie sound in pie)
Watch the video below
Complete the below activities recapping the phase 5 digraphs we have learnt so far and applying the new sound ie.
1. Cut out the sounds below.
2. Place these in a hat or a bag.
3. Shake the hat and pick out a sound.
4. Write the sound to complete the word list.
5. How many real words you have made?
Activity 2
Write the words and find the ie words. How many of the pictures contain the ie digraph?
Write a sentence with the words containing the 'ie' sound in them.
