Summer 1
Welcome back to the summer term in Wrens.
Our focus text for this half term is 'The Lion Inside'. Through this book we will learn to write descriptions, stories, poetry and continue to learn grammatical skills such as applying suffixes (-er, -est, -ed, -ing), capital letters and punctuation (full stops, question marks, exclamation marks).
In phonics we will be continuing to learn alternative graphemes for the phonemes (sounds) that we already know. We will also start to prepare for the Phonics Screening Check which children will be tested in June.
In maths, we will be learning place value to 50 and exploring measure. This will include practical activities learning how to measure length, mass and capacity.
Science is all about the seasons. We will be learning how many seasons there are, features of each one and what we enjoy about the different seasons and the changes that they bring.
Our geography topic is the United Kingdom. We will be exploring the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom and how England differs from Kenya which links to our key text 'The Lion Inside'.
On top of all of this learning, we will be completing much more in our PSHE, PE, art and RE topics exploring differences between boys and girls, defence skills in games, printing and answering our key RE question ' Why do Jewish families say so many prayers and blessings?'.
