Welcome to the Wrens class

Year 1

Our amazing learning environment

Please find photos below of our learning environment including photos of inside the Wren's classroom, the Atrium (our continuous provision space attached to our classroom) and of our outdoor area.

Spring 1

Our focus text this half term is 'What the ladybird heard?' Through this book, we will learn to apply our phonics knowledge to write captions, sentences, and character descriptions in English. In Phonics, we are beginning the Year 1 phonics after recapping, the children will begin to learn new sounds and split digraphs. In Maths, we will be learning place value to 20. This involves looking at what makes a number (how many 10s? how many 1s?). Science this half term is the human body and its senses. We will be doing lots of practical activities like drawing around our bodies. Our topic is geography and we are exploring the 5 oceans and the human and physical features of the world. This will create lots of class discussion and feed into our continuous provision as we make these features in our construction area. In PE, we will be focusing on ball skills for our outside sessions and gymnastics for our inside session. In Art, we will be exploring the importance of a design criteria and how you have to meet it. The children will be given a design criteria and try creating a painting that meets each point. In PSHE we are exploring healthy eating, what does this look like, how we can plan to eat well and comparing diets. In Computing, we will be exploring how art is created on a computer and which tools can be used. Lastly, in RE, we will be learning about Christianity and answering the question "What are the best symbols of Jesus’ death and resurrection at Easter?".
