Welcome to Autumn 1 in Wrens

Welcome to a brand new year of school! We are so happy to have you back refreshed and ready for a new year of exploring, learning and fun!

This half term, Year 1s will begin an exciting new chapter of their learning! They will have individual English, maths, science and topic books to record learning in as well as COOL books where they will be able to record their own learning when choosing in the hall and outdoor area.

Our focus text this half term is Beegu! Through this book, we will learn to apply our phonics knowledge to write captions, sentences, and character descriptions in English. In Maths, we will be learning to recognise numbers to 20, 1:1 count and add and subtract within 10. During our daily maths meetings, we will learn the days of the week, months of the year, weather, tell the time to O'clock and count forwards and backwards. During our science lessons, we will be learning about different types of materials, their everyday uses and exploring their properties.  In geography, we will be learning about physical and human features and study the geography of our surrounding area. In PE, we will master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination in gymnastics. In DT, we will be developing our sewing skills by learning how to plan and make an alien puppet. In PSHE we will be learning how to make a caring classroom environment and in RSHE we will be learning the importance of respecting others even when they are different from ourselves. In computing we will be creating pictograms; learning how digital data can be stored and organised. Lastly in RE, we will be exploring Judaism and answering the key question 'Why do Jewish families talk about repentance at New Year?'
