Welcome to Autumn 1

In Autumn 1, you will be trying lots of new things and learning new things that you have not done in Reception!

Year one is a little bit different, but we are so lucky that this year we have moved downstairs and have a lovely continuous provision area for you to take your learning outside of the classroom and into your play!

This half term we are focusing on the story 'Man on the Moon (A day in the life of Bob)' by the author Simon Bartram. We will use this story to learn all about what it's like on the moon! This will link into our History lessons too as we explore space travel and significant individuals such as Neil Armstrong.

In Maths we will be developing our confidence with number, specifically focussing on place value (tens and ones), addition and subtraction.

In our COOL (choose your own learning) area you can further extend your learning, which provides lots of different opportunities for every child's individual interests - including Writing, Reading, Maths, Computing, Construction, Small World, Fine Motor, Investigation, Art, Sand and Water areas.

Keep updated on ClassDojo and Twitter for photos and pieces of work that we complete!

What will we be learning in Autumn 2...

In Autumn 2, our English text we are exploring is 'The Snail and the Whale'. We will be thinking about how the snail might feel, predicting what could happen next and writing from the snails point of view!

In Science we will be exploring materials and their properties. We will learn the difference between the object and the material it is made out off. In RE we will study Judaism but also spend lots of time practicing our Nativity which we will preform at the end of the term. In Maths, we will be learning about addition and subtraction and all the ways we can figure out number problems as well as studying part part whole. In Geography, we will learn what country and continent we live in and the other 6 continents in the world! In Computing, we will be learning how to programme a robot (our BeeBots!) to follow our instructions.

Our COOL Time will continue in our hall alongside all our formal learning for the children to expand on what they have learnt and engage in meaningful play!

It sure will be a busy term in the lead up to Christmas but it's also going to be lots of fun!smiley

See our photos below from Autumn 1 and 2!

What will you learn in Spring 1?

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely break and if you celebrated Christmas, we hope you enjoyed your festivities!

This term is called 'Spring 1'. In English, we will be looking at a book called 'The Lonely Beast' by Chris Judge. We will be moving our learning on and started to write sentences independently and thinking of how we can change words using prefixes and suffixes!

In Maths, we will be further developing our number sense with numbers to 50 and looking at place value. We will also delve into addition and subtraction up to 50 and measuring!

In Science we will be learning all about the animal groups and how we can identify and classify animals based on their group.

In Geography, we will continue our learning of the seven continents but also introduce using a map to identify the UK and the continents we have learnt, hot and cold areas of the world and simple compass directions we can use alongside a map.

In PSHE/RSHE, we will be learning what a healthy diet looks like and different food groups, this will help us for our DT day when we look at cooking something for the Beasts party!

All of this as well as lots of other lovely learning in our other subjects and in your continuous provision play!

Welcome to Spring 2...

This half term we have lots of fun things planned...we will be having a theatre company come into school, a food workshop, world book day and a trip to the fire station!

In this term we will be studying 'Traction Man' in English. This book will allow us to practice our reading skills and work a lot on narration. In Maths, we will be moving onto capacity and volume as well as working with numbers 50 and above for our addition, subtraction, partition and number bonds.

In Science, we will be looking at the weather and how the seasons change around us. In RE, we are exploring a new topic of Hinduism and discussing how a Hindu may celebrate devotion to a deity at the festival of Holi. In PSHE, we will be discussing wellbeing and the importance of looking after ourselves and others and how we can do this.

As always, please look out on our class dojo page for pictures of our activities and work throughout the term!

We will be exploring poetry, practising writing in role and concentrating on our SPAG skills within our writing.

In PSHE, we are looking at our own bodies and being respectful of one another. In Science, we are looking at plants and fingers crossed, the weather is nice enough, so we can grow our own plants!

In RE, we will be looking at Christianity again and the Christian holy day of Pentecost.

We will be doing DT this half term and designing and building a structure for transportation of Zeraffa Giraffa to Paris!

A busy half term as always but lots of fun learning to look forward too! smiley
