Spring Term 2025

Children's Mental Health Week

We have taken part in supporting children's mental health week. Although we practice mindfulness, self care, well -being, kindness and reflecting on our emotions all the time, we wanted to share some of the activities we like to do to support this.

We have been super lucky to have a visit from ITFC's Bluey and Louise from Suffolk Mind.
We have been thinking about "feeling our bodies" and what we need to do to relax.
Our class book votes this week have all been linked to our emotions and wellbeing. So many lovely stories have given us the opportunity to reflect on a range of emotions and have some open discussions around this.
Sometimes if we are overwhelmed or need to calm ourselves after a lively play session, we practice "dragon breathing." This is when we breathe in for a count of 4, hold for 4 and out for 6. This helps us regulate and calm ready for our next challenge.

Some quotes this week.......

"If you have a worry you can talk to someone" - Mishka

"Dominic is my favourite person, he copies what I do and we laugh together" - Trent

"Miss Felgate, I had a worry in my tummy when the fire alarm went off. But it's gone now I told you" - Theo

We listened to different kinds of music to see how they made us feel. Some of us then chose to draw and use our marks to represent our feelings.

To help us regulate and calm after a busy lunchtime on the playground, we sometimes play a game of 'Mirror me.' Children sit opposite a partner and one does some actions and their partner has to copy them.

We had a spa day. The children relaxed, soaking their feet in warm bubbly baths and had foot and hand massages. We listened to calming music and had the scent of lavender filling the air. Give this a go at home, some of them nearly dozed off they were so chilled!

World Book Day

For World Book Day each class had a theme and ours was Space. We decorated our door with shape rockets, chalked stars and splatter paintings.

We dressed up in space themed clothes.

In class, we shared fiction and non-fiction space-related books and we wrote our own Tales Toolkit space stories.

Spring Festivals

We learnt about Spring celebrations including Eid, Easter and Holi. We found out who celebrates these special times and what it means to them.
